There are 31 Energy Storage Tech startups in Portugal which include Fusion Fuel, Powerdot, miio, EVIO, C2C Newcap. Out of these, 13 startup s are funded, with 7 having secured Series A+ funding. Additional hybrid capacity is being deployed, namely by Iberdrola, Greenvolt, Akuo, EDP and GALP, supported by Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) programme under the “Flexibility and Storage” incentive call. Under this PRR scheme, 41 projects were approved, totalling around 500 MW of new storage capacity and € 99.75 million in grants.
In the period from January to August 2025, Portugal generated 33,107 GWh of electricity, with renewables accounting for 76.9% of total generation—the fourth-highest share in Europe, following Norway, Denmark, and Austria.
